People of Peru are docile and kind, unlike them in this respect. An in- born quality, perhaps, bequeathed them by their ancestors, the mighty, highly civilized Incas who would not or could not comprehend until too late that the Spaniards who landed on th-ir shores meant them harm. A single man can bask in the per- ennial sunlight of Inca-land for about half of what hs must expend for the privilege of resentfully participating in a metropolitan Winter. With no more than $75 a month to live on, the history, the mystery, the age-old love- liness of Peru are within reach, with an unhurried, comfortable existence in which to nejoy and explore the country thrown in for good measure. S who does not count the hours of the day spent in work—will cost about 30 soles a month, approximately $6. A comfortable house with one or two palos, large, spacious rooms and un- doubtedly a delicately grilled balcony will come to about $22.70 a month. Food is 80 cheap that it hardly enters into the question. The tradition of La Pericholi is sti! very rnuch alive in Lima, and top price for seats in the theater will not be $4.40, but more in the vicinity of 50 cents.
