By the Associated Press. The Senate Agriculture Commit- tee today tentatively approved the House bill extending Federal control over all commodity exchanges. The action was subject, however, to an agreement with House leaders that cotton will be exempt. As passed by the House, the bill extended the present grain futures act over other major commodities, including cotton, rice, corn, oats, bar- ley, rye, flaxseed, grain sorghums, mill feeds, butter and eggs. Objection to including cotton was made by Chairman Smith of the com- mittee, who said he did not want any interference with the present cotton futures act which, he gave as his opinion, was “working splendidly.” He indicated he would submit & few amendments this session to the cotton futures act, including a limitation upon the market operations of large holders. ‘The principal new provision in the commodity exchange measure was Government authority to regulate the extent of speculation “tending to cause unreasonable fluctuation or unwar- ranted changes in the price of such commodity.” Exempt from such regulation were 5 ‘o arrie SO DO PATRONS OF Peoples Drug Store 11th and G Sts.
