BEAUTY BOX CAST OFFERS 1OLANTHE Presentation to Be Last Be- fore Switching to Fri- day Evenings. HE Beauty Box Theater rings up the final Tuesday curtain on Gilbert and Sullivan’s dun- ble light opera, “Iolanthe,” night over WRC before switching m‘ Friday evenings for the preununon‘ of its operettas. Helen Oelheim, contralto; Theodore Webb, baritone; Crane Calder, bass, and John Barclay, leading man, will sing and portray the principal roles. Francia White, prima donna of the Beauty Box cast, will be absent from the broadcast as she is vacationing in Hollywood. In “Iolanthe” Gilbert and Sullivan created an opera that is not “dated.” Its parody of government brain- trusters, their romances and political thrusts, make it as timely today as it was when first produced in 1882. The plot is highly fantastic, with its set- ting in Fairyland and the English House of Lords. Following “Iolanthe” there will be | no pegformance from the Beauty Box Theater for 10 days, as the program changes its day, hour and network from Tuesday, 10 p.m., WEAF, to Fri- | day, 9 pm., WJZ or the N. B. C. blue | network. A second broadcast for the | Mountain and Pacific Coast stations will be broadcast at 11:30 p.m. % el RED WARING'S PENNSYLVA- NIANS will present the familiar Italian classic, “The Angel's Sere- nade,” ‘while Col. Stoopnagle and Budd present their unnamed, but nevertheless humorous, classic of New ‘York subways as features of their broadcast over WJSV from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. “The Angel's Serenade,” a once popular concert stage selection, will be offered in a new arrangement with Stuart Churchill, tenor, as the solo- ist and the Glee Club accompanying. It was written by Gaitano Braga, Ttalian cellist and composer, and REACT UNFAVORASBLY ANIMALS, SO \T LOOKS You'D HAVE To GET R DoG OF HAY FEVER A VERDICT © 1933 N.Y. TRBUNE . 1nC. The Pennsylvanians also will offer a spirited program of light and, popular music. At the instance of an untold num- ber of requests the colonel and Budd have reluctantly consented to repeat their racing tale of the New York sub- ways. It was first presented many moons ago, before subway riding be- came a gala affair in Soviet Russia. But that has nothing to do with it. PFred Waring and his gang will take part in the narration of the great tale. If you remember, there is an orches- tral sequence in it. Churchill himself has created the new As a mental afterblaze, Col. Stoop- nagle and Budd likewise will recite their latest composition.
