VETORVOF G0 SEENBY EIL NOX Publisher Sees Hoover. Says Constitution, Money and Budget Issues. By the Associated Press. SAN FRANCISCO, July 30—A Republican President in 1937 was the Pprediction left with California G. O, P. leaders today by Col Frank Knox, Chicago publisher. The latest of nationally prominent take office in 1937 on a platform op- posed to “planned economy.” He contrasted planned economy with ‘what he said was the “competitive philosophy visioned by the framers of the United States Constitution.” ‘The key issues of the next campaign, he said, would be “defense of the Con- stitution,” a balanced budget, stabi- lized currency and a “sound” farm policy. To Invade South. Col. Knox, who denied that he had any aspirations for the Republican nomination, left by airplane last night for Chicago, completing a swing through California during which he expressed his political views in ad- dresses at Los Angeles and here. He said he planned a trip through the East and South soon. ‘The Chicago publisher declared that President Roosevelt was seeking to un- £ dermine the “last line of defense” to the Constitution by attempting to “create sentiment against the Supreme Court with the intention of bringing about destruction of some of its func- tions.” Claims Recovery Handicapped. Col. Knox said his trip had con- vinced him there was an improvement in business, but he declared that re- covery was being retarded by what he termed the administration's “planned economy experiments.” He attributed the improvement to a ! world economic recovery, which he claimed started in June, 1932, and to “business confidence restored by the | Supreme Court’s N. R. A. decision.” “American business,” Col. Knox de- clared, “has found a courageous de- fender of its rights in the Supreme Court of the United States.” LIONS DELEGATE WED New Yorker Marries Texas Wom- an in Mexico City.
