Mrs. Alice Roosevels Longworth and her daughter Paulina, aged 10, will sail for Europe temorrow or the Manhattan for a six- week stay, which will include a visit at the old- est Norman castle in England and attendance at 2ne of the outstanding weddings of France. The castle will come first, when Mrs. Longworth goes tc stay with a childhood chum, cnce Molly Lowell of Chestnut' Hill, Mass., but now the Countess of Berkeley, living at Berke- ley Castle. The administration has shown a strong desire to have its program enacted at this session. | The Hcuse Ways and Means Com- | mittee has put aides to work drafting | a tax bill with specific rates. The | President, while calling for taxes on | large inheritances, increased levies on big incomes and other steps, did not suggest a schedule of rates, except in the case of corporate incomes. The Ways and Means Committee asked Lovell H. Parker, chief of staff of the Joint Congressicnal Committee on Internal Revenue, and Middleton Beaman, House legislative counsel, to try to shape up a tentative bill for | the committee’s consideration. That the job was a big one was | indicated by Chairman Doughton’s estimate that it would be next week | before the committee could go to work | on the bill. He guessed it would take the committee “about a week” to fin- ish the job. Meanwhile advocates of the excess profits tax contended such a levy Wwould be a good answer to those who | opposed a graduated corporation in- come tax. In their study of the situ- ation, they found this: There is, in the present law, a| provision which allows corporations to fix what is called the “adjusted de- | clared value” of their capital.
