DR. HENRY RANCK MARKS 40TH YEAR Pastor of Grace Reformed| Church Will Have Special Services. Dr. Henry Haverstick Ranck, pas- tor of Grace Reformed Church, will observe his 40th anniversary in the gospel ministry with special exer- cises tomorrow. He came to the local church in May, 1914. Dr. Ranck was born in Lancaster, Pa., July 24, 1868, the son of Jacob | Eby and Martha Bausman Ranck‘ He received his A. B. degree from | Franklin and Marshall College in 1892 | and his D. D. degree there in 1916. He studied at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary. He graduated from the Theological Semi- | nary of the Reformed Church in (he] United States in 1895. He married Mary Hili of Lancaster April 22, 1897. He was ordained into the ministry in 1896 and was pastor of St. Paul's Church, Mechanicsburg, Pa., 1896- 1899; St. John's Church, Lebanon, Pa., 1899-1901; St. Andrew's Church, Reading, Pa., 1901-1914, before com- ing here. | Dr. Ranck was a member of the Board of Education of the Eastern; Synod of the Reformed Church from | 1917 to 1924, president of Potomac | Synod Board of Education, 1923- member of the education commission. 1920-1923; board of visitors, Theo- | logical Seminary, Reformed Church, | 1909-1914; fraternal delegate to the general assembly, 1916; trustee ot‘ Huping Christian College, Yochow, | China, 1922; member of the Board of | Education, Reformed Church; member of the efficiency commission of the | general synod, 1923-1926; secrelary of the Executive Committee, Washington Federation of Churches, 1920-1923, | and member of the Washington Com- mittee of the Federal Council of| Churches of Christ, 1921. The Georgetown Community Vaca- tion Church School will open Monday morning at the Georgetown Presby- terian Church and continue until July 26. Children between the ages of 4 and 14 years are eligible, and sessions of the schoel wil be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. every day, except Satur- day and Sunday. Mrs. Fred L. Knob- lock will be the director of the school, Mrs. Richard Thrush will be in charge of the music. She will be assisted by a trained and experienced staff. The program of activities includes devo- tional services, dramatics, art, music, hand and class work. Paul Schearrer, pastor of the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, will preach at the 11 o'clock service tomorrow on “Cultivating a Serene Spirit.” This will be the last service at which the chorus choir will assist in the worship until October. Tucker’s com- mittee will plan co-operation with neighborhood councils. The plans to aid paroled prisoners are proceeding under the direction of H. C. Barden. Work for transients will be done by & group headed by Horace Day. Dr. J. H. Hollister of the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church is chairman of the whole committee. Dr. W. L. Darby leaves tonight for ‘Williams Bay, Lake Geneva, Wis. City and State federation secretaries meet there all of next week for their an- nual conference. This year it will be held in conjunction with that of leaders in religious education. He will spend the remainder of the month with relatives in the Middle West, returning about August 1.
