A call for vigorous action fo check | nnauthorized use of the term “realtor” is issued by the National Association of Real Estate Boards by action of its board of directors. At the suggestion of the brokers’ division of the association, the board of directors in a resolution adopted at its recent quarterly meeting in Detroit, ask that all member boards | of the association make surveys with- | in their respective territorial juris- | dictions and compile the names and | addresses of all individuals who are | making unauthorized use of this term and report them to the national ss- sociation immediately, in order that | appropriate steps: be taken to protect | the term. The term “realtor” was coined by Charles N. Chadbourne of the Minne- | apolis Real Estate Board, and adopted | by the national association in March, 1916, as official membership designa- tion. The term was adopted as a means «by which the general public | may identify persons in the business | of real estate who are pledged to the association's rules of business ‘ethics, who have access fo the constant | stream of information on business | matters and methods made available | through the real estate boards of the eountry, and whose general business standing is attested by the fact that| they are members in good standing of | a member board of the association or | in unorganized territory are individual | members of the national association. Court decisions upholding the association’s established right to the term as a membership designation have been brought in cis- | euit courts in Virginia, Michigan, Missouri, in district courts in Minne- sota and Utah, and in the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia. | BUILDING CODES DATED Obsolete Regulations Danger to Health and Safety. | National Bureau of Standards sur- | weys show some cities with building codes written more than 30 years ago. | Building owners, material suppliers, architects, builders and public interests | report confusion in obsolete regula- tions. Construction has made rapid advances and a building code over 10, wvears old begins to lag behind require- | ments. In addition to construction and investment interests, public health and safety are at stake. The bureau co-operates with States and munici- | palities on code problems, offering re- | sults of exhaustive experimental work nn materials, plumbing, fire resistance and other essentials. SEAT PLEASANT, Md., June 29.— Continuance of Seat Pleasant's build- ing boom has caused Mayor Harmon O. Acuff to become concerned over the possibility of the town becoming “pound” and unable to expand more. | ‘The shortage of lots for new homes is becoming acute and the town offi- cials are contemplating going before the next session of the Legislature to have the incorporation extended. Nearly every vacant lot in the mu- nicipality will be built up in the near future under the plans disclosed by real estate men. They expect to construct 16 new homes shortly, while most of the tom- pleted homes are now occupied. A number of homes were built by indi- viduals for their use. All of the developments so far. have been built by local builders with local | labor. The boom, which is the first this town has enjoved in 20 years, was the primary reason for the increase in the municipal tax from 25 cents per hundred to 35 cents per hundred.
