FINANCIAL, CORPORATE BONDS STAY NEAR LOWS Secondary Rail Issues Lack Good Support and Yield Easily to Selling. By the Assoclated Press. NEW YORK, June 26.—The corp- orate bond market was heavy today, finishing around the lows. Secondary rails, which were resistant to selling yesterday, lacked good sup- port and yielded rather easily in the late trading. The United States Governments & shoyed general steadiness in light \] trading, closing 2-32ds of a point lower to 4-32ds higher. Losses ranged from fractions to 2| points in loans of M-K-T, Nickel Plate, Erie, Missouri Pacific, New York Central, Southern Pacific and Southern International Telephone issues sold off, but those of Western Union improved. Great Nothern bonds showed independent strength. Londoners Expect Stabilized Pound Around $3 Level Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, June 26.—The average guess of supposedly well informed Londoners is that the pound will soon be stabilized around $3. This average was obtained by piecing together let- lers that have been received in the business and financial districts here fram Londoners whose names fre- quently are mentioned in national and international circles. Virtually every letter stresses the fact that it will be impossible to get return or safety in London until stabilization comes. Then, in varying degree, they suggest that considerable progress, “unofficial, to be sure,” is being made by Britain, France and America toward stabilization. It is indicated that the British are buying American securities only until the pound is stabilized, one of them saying. “because we frcl that when stabilization does come we will be able to sell our American purchases in your market and buy back our pounds around $3." 4chvr‘ih' 1033 Washmgton Exchange SALES. He pronounced this arrangement “the wisest means to provide the new working capital that all the roads re-| 3. quire from time to time.” Capital for the operating companies, Prince said, could be raised at “very low” interest rates, probably 31; or 4 per cent, because of the strength the | security would offer a first claim on net earnings. ‘The operating company plan, he said, would give officers of the operat- ing companies more liberty to make long or short operating contracts with connecting roads which would permit increased net earnings. “All roads today are only used to a small amount of their capacity, not over 20 per cent,” he explained. The . | operating officers could, therefore, unite their traffic over low-grade lines where advisable and employ Jointly the use of terminals to mutual ad- vantage.” —_ DIVIDENDS ANNOUNCED unxw YORK.
