DEAN, DEAD Noted Economist Expires of Heart Disease in Sleep. Dr. William F. Notz, dean of the | Georgetown University School of For- | eign Service since 1923 and intern: tionally known economist, died in his sleep early tcday at his residence, 5422 | Thirty-ninth street, in Chevy Chase. He was 56 years old. Death was due to heart disease. Although he had been in ill health | for several months he had nppen;red1 to be rapidly recovering. Only yes- terday afternoon he had attended a reception at the Czechoslovakian Le- gation. He was found dead in bed by | his family shortly before 6 a.m. 1 Dr. Nctz's death was a shock to| Georgetown University officials, for he had been one of the original mem- bers of the faculty of the Foreign Service School when it was organized in 1919. Dr. Edmund A. Walsh, S. J., regent, said today that Dr. Notz, then in the Government service, was one of the economists and trade experts with whom he had consulted in organ- izing the school. He was the first lec- | turer on economics, a member of the | executive faculty and head, always, of the Department of Economics. Became Dean in 1923. When Dr. Roy S. McKelwee re- signed in 1923 as dean, Dr. Notz was chosen to succeed him. Few college professors had a better background in economics, trade and commerce than Dr Notz, according to Georgetown ! officfals, and his experience had been greatly in demand at foreign uni- versities, where he delivered lectures. each year.
