CATHEDRAL PLANS NEW YORK SERVICE Tribute to Emmre State Will Be Paid at Rites Starting Sunday. In accordance with “the Union of Btates” in Washington Cathedral, as announced recently by Bishop James E. Freeman, public officials and peo- ple of New York State will be re- membered in special prayers at all services in the Cathedral for one week, beginning tomorrow, which will be ob- served as “New York Sunday.” The flag of the Empire State, pre- sented to the Cathedral by the Wom- an’s Naval Service in memory of Pres- Ident Theodore Roosevelt, will be car- ried in procession at the evensong service at 4 o'clock and attention will be called from the chancel to the com- memoration. The sermon will be de- livered by Dr. Royden K. Yerkes of the Philadelphia Divinity School, who | is conducting a conference for clergy at the College of Preachers. High Officials Invited. Special invitations have been ex- tended in the name of the Cathedral chapter to the Governor of New York State, members of Congress, officers and members of the New York State Soclety in the District of Columbia and officers of committees of the Na- tional Cathedral Association in that State Pennsylvania and North Caro- lina will be similarly remembered in the Cathedral during the week be- ginning May 12 and 19, respectively. The sermon at the celebration of the holy communion in the Great Choir at 11 am. tomorrow will be delivered by Canon Anson Phelps Stokes. Holy communion will be celebrated at 7:30 am. in the Bethlehem Chapel. The Cathedral choir of men and boys will render special music at the 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. services, which will be fol- lowed by group pilgrimages through the Cathedral for out-of-town wor=- shipers, especially members of the congregations from New York State. King George Service Monday. By arrangements with the British Ambassador, a special service marking the twenty-fifth jubilee anniversary of King George V of Great Britain will be held in the Great Choir on Monday at 11 am. The Cathedral choir will render music taken from the Order of Bervice to be followed in St. Paul's Cathedral, London, as the official commemoration for the British Empire on that day. ‘The annual massing of the colors service will be held in the open-air amphitheater on iount St. Alban the afternoon of May 26, under the aus- pices of the District of Columbia Chapter of the Military Order of the World War. Bishop Freeman will de- liver the sermon and more than 100 veterans, patriotic and civic organiza- tions will participate. KNOWLEDGE IS TOPIC Rev. Edward G. A city-wide contest to find the best teller of Bible stories in the Sunday schools of Washington has been ar- ranged by the religious work depart- ment of the Young Men's Christian Association. The contest has the three-fold pur- pose of building character, promoting religious education and developing oratorical talents of youth of ‘the city, it was announced by Page McK. Etchison, director of the department. Contestants will be divided into Junior and senior divisions, the former for boys from 10 to 13 and the latter for boys from 14 to 17 years, inclusive. Stories may be told about any biblical character or event and must be not more than five minutes long. Finals will be held June 3 in the “¥” assembly hall. First prize for the senior and junior at Camp Letts, Y. M. C. A. camp for boys on the Rhodes River.
