THE EVENING TINKHA T0 PRESS FIGHT ON RUSSIA Dlscloses He Will - Seek Withdrawal of Recognition | on Floor of House. By the Associated Press. Representative Tinkham, Repub- lican, of Massachusetts disclesed to- day that he plans to carry to the floor of the House his fight to put Congress on record as favoring with- drawal of recognition from Soviet Russia. “The recognition cHtained in 1933," he said, “was obtained on specific promises—a series of promises in | writing. All of these have been violated, particularly the one regard- ing agitation and overthrow of estab- lished government.” A House committee investigating “un-American activities” found, he said, that there was overwhelming evi- dence of official connection between the government at Moscow and the “increasing and perfected communis- tic activities to overthrow our Gov- ernment by force here.” | Tinkham has offered a resolution to cut the diplomatic connection between the two countries, but Secretary Hull held that this was an executive mat- ter, and the House Foreign Affairs Committee was unwilling to hold hearings unless Tinkham promised not to repeat any of the discussions on the floor. This he declined to do. He visited Russia last year—on his twenty-third trip to Europe. “From what I saw and heard and read in their literature,” the bearded Bostonian said 1 concluded their purpose was the destruction of all organized society.” He said the Soviet government was “a rule of terrorism and brutality un- paralleled in the pages of history—a dictatorship which meets the slightest criticism with either murder or exile.” P.-T.
