L3 CAPTAINS TEANS INTHREE LEAGUES Record Field Is Assured for Girls’ City Event—Blue Ribbons Visit. BY ROD THOMAS. UCKPINS rarely come in large flocks to J. C. “Dutch” Sher- bahn of Takoma, but few bowlers gather more in the end. The reason is that “Dutch” is one of the busiest pin shooters in town. Both on and off the maple- ways, he's a livewire in three leagues. He is president of the Takoma Suburban League, secretary of the Takoma Duckpin Association and a working vice president in the Takoma Church League, besides captaining a team in each. By way of appreciation for Sher- bahn’s unceasing efforts in behalf of the game, the Takoma bowlers, rap- icly growing in number, due gely to “Dutch’s” activity, have named a tournament for him. The Dutchl Sherbahn handicap will be held on the next two Saturdays at Takoma. Helps on City Tourney. HE scratch will be 117 and par- ticipants will receive a handicap of half the difference between that figure and scratch. The entry fee of $5 will include the cost of ten games. Sherbahn will hustle for entries in his own tournament, but will kill two birds with one shot. He intends to round up entries this week also for the Washington City Duckpin Asso- ciation championships, to be held at the Columbia, starting April 22, The entries are supposed to close next! Saturday. In the past Takoma has been con- tributing less than half a dozen teams to the city tournament, but this time Sherbahn hopes to treble | the suburb’s representation. The Washington Women's Duckpin Association finally got through an an- nual meeting with no friction and the girls are going after things as they never have before. Their coming tournament, to be held at the Ar- cadia, opening April 29, is assured of a record entry with more than 40 teams already in line. They got in | at a bargain. A new rule permitted all who entered before last Sunday | to pay a membership fee of only 20| cents instead of the customary four Dbits. At least 150 individuals signed. | Girl Record Claimed. Clarke also leads in strikes and spares. As a prelude to their rolling in the | national tournament the Connecticut Blue Ribbons will invade Convention Hall Friday night to tackle Fred Buchhalz’s Occidental Res!auram sharpshooters in what promises to be the most pretentious intercity match of the season, here or elsewhere. | Team, doubles and singles will rolled, starting at 7:30. T HAS been the habit for years of | the Blue Ribbons to reach their peak against Washington teams. ‘Without exception, their matches here have been marked by sensational roll- ing or a record or two.
