HENSEY EXPIRES IN PARIS Member of Old Washington Family Once in Busi- ness Here. | Walter Russeil Hensey, sr., 83, mem- ber of an old Washington family and at one time prominently identified in business and professional circles here, died yesterday in Paris, France, where he had been engaged in the manu- facturing and export business for a number of years. Subsequently, Mr. Hensey prac- ticed patent law here and published & paper relating to patent law. After- wards he entered the mining business which took him to Mexico, New York and Canada. . Brother Lives Here, A brother, Millville D. Hensey, 5111 Connecticut avenue, is an attorney at the Veterans’ Administration. An- other brother, the late Alexander T. Hensey, who died a number of years ago, was at one time a member of the real estate firm of Swartzell, Rheem & Hensey. Besides the brother here, Mr. Hen- sey is survived by his stepmother, Mrs. Ruth B. Hensey of this city; his widow, Mrs. Bessie Draney Hensey; a son, First Lieut. Walter Russell Hen- sey, ir., U. 8. A., an instructor at West Point; a daughter, Mrs. Edith Ten- ning, the wife of a Paris representa- tive of the Chase National Bank, who was in Paris when he died, and an- other brother, George Hensey of Chi- cago. His wife was visiting the son at West Point when news was re- ceived of the death. During the World War Mr. Hensey was connected with the French High Commission in connection with mak- ing purchases here for the French government. Shortly after the war he went to Paris, where he had since been engaged in the manufacture and export of zinc products under the firm name of Zinc Products, Inc. Prior to going into busi- ness in France he had been importing similar products to this country, while maintaining offices in New York. His first mining enterprise was in Guerrero, Mexico, while still practicing patent law here, about 1903. Graduate of Central. Mr. Hensey was a graduate of the old Central High School and of George Washington University and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Fra- ternity. Also, while in Washington he had been active in many civic organi- zations. His widow is the daughter of the late Thomas M. AMBULANCE DRIVER’S CONDITION CRITICAL Rushed to Hospital After Col- lision With Truck—Boy, 11, Trapped Inside. Harry Wallthrop, 45, of 332 Second street northeast, injured when his ambulance turned over and caught fire in a collision at Constitution ave- nue and Twenty-sixth street Wednes- day afternoon, still was in a critical condition at Emergency Hospital today. ‘Wallthrop’s ambulance was rushing 11-year-old James Rochester, a pneu- monia victim, to the hospital. The driver was injured when the ambulance and a Heurich Brewing Co. truck, driven by Leslie C. Eggleston, 34, of Ballston, Va., collided. Wallthrop was pinned under the ambulance and the boy was trapped inside. They were rescued by park police. Eggleston is at liberty under $1,000 bond on a charge of reckless driving. By the Associated Press. PHOENIX, Ariz, March 8-—Dr. PFranklin H. Martin, founder of the College of Surgeons, Chicago, died yes- terday of a heart attack. He was 77 years old. Dr. Martin, director general of the American College of Surgeons, came here as a Winter visitor early in No- vember. Dr. Robert Flinn, who at- tended him, issued the folowing state- ment: “Dr. Martin suffered an attack of coronary thrombosis, a blocking off of one of the arteries which nourishes the wall of the heart, on February 27. Although exceedingly ill, he made satisfactory progress until today, when he suffered a second attack of thrombosis, and died at 5 o'clock.” Dr. Flinn said Dr. Martin had been in excellent health until the attack in February, although he had been work- ing hard on national legislative prob- lems. Mrs. Martin and her husband's sec- retary were at the hospital when he died. REPUTATION WORLD WIDE. Home of Dr. Martin Was Meeting Place of Many Leaders. CHICAGO, March 8 (#)—Dr. Franklin H. Martin, 77, founder of the American College of Surgeons, who died yesterday in Phoenix, Ariz., had an international reputation as a sur- geon, medical editor and author. Educated in the medical schools of Chicago, he took advanced training at the Queen’s University, Belfast, Ire- | land, the University of Wales and & number of American schools. Born July 13, 1857, at Ixonia, Wis., Dr. Martin was married in 1886 to Miss Isabelle Hollister, a daughter of Dr. John H. Hollister, a pioneer Chicago physician. Their home was the meeting place of the world’s best known medical and surgical leaders. Dr. Bowman C. Crowell, as associate director of the American College of Surgeons, said tonight that Dr. Martin, in spite of his age, had remained active in the organization he founded in 1913. —— SERVICES HELD Mrs. Catherine K. Miller, 61, who died of a heart attack Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marion Barn- hart, Glen Ross road, were held this morning at the S. H. Hines funeral home in Washington. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Miller, who was a native of Pittsburgh, had been a resident of Washington for more than 25 years. She was employed by the Union Trust Co. for many years, resigning three years ago when she came to this community to live with her daughter. TAKOMA PARK, Md., March 8.— Mrs. Marie Sipe Skinner, for 15 years a resident here, died Tuesday after a long illness at the Home for In- curables in Washington. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Hines funeral home, 2801 Fourteenth street, Washington. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Mrs. Skinner was the wife of Maj. Frank E. Skinner, for many years connected with the District of Co- lumbia National Guard and a veteran of the Spanish-American War. She was born in the National Capital and educated in the public schools, later becoming a teacher and serving until 1902, when she married. Later the couple moved to Hampton, Va., where Maj. Skinner was assigned to duty with the National Soldiers’ Home, Surviving, in addition to her hus- band, are two daughters, Mrs, Joseph Walsh of New York and Miss Marie Skinner of this place; a son, Edward Skinner, and two sisters, Mrs. James H. Alburtis of Washington and Mrs. James C. Bradley of Pittsburgh. REV. J. ). 0’CONNOR DIES IN BALTIMORE Former Pastor at Bethesda Stricken at St. Anne's. Rites Tomorrow. Rev. James J. O'Connor, until two years ago pastor of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Pethesda and before that for many- years as- sistant at St. Augustine’s here, died | Wednesday night at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore. He was stricken earlier in the week while in the hall of St. Anne’s Church, where he was as- sistant. Born in Washington 54 years ago, Father O'Connor was educated at St. Charles’ in Ellicott City, Md., and at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore. After his ordination he returned to teach at Catholic University and as- sist Rev. Alonzo J. Olds at St. Augus- tine's. After 15 years he became pas- tor of the Bethesda church, whose creation was partly due to his efforts. A chronic illness forced him to leave this work about two years ago for the lighter duties at St. Anne’s. He is survived by a sister, Miss Nora M. O'Connor of Washington. Mrs. Small, who lived alone, is be- lieved to have been stricken Wednes- day evening as she was preparing to attend services at Grace Church. Her body, fully clothed, was found in the bath room of her home yesterday | morning. A native of Washington, where she attended the public schools, Mrs. Small moved to Woodside with her husband about 30 years ago. He died 10 years later. A leader in church and civic af- fairs, Mrs. Small was a former presi- dent of the Montgomery County Fed- eration of Women's Clubs, president of the Woman's Guild of Grace Church for a number of years, a member of the Woodside Park Civic Association and at one time a mem- ber of the Board of Directors of Mont- gomery County Hospital.
