A new slate of officers, headed by Ellis R. King as president, was elected by the Conduit Road Citizens’ Asso- ciation at its last meeting of the sea- son last night in the community church, Cathedral avenue and Haw- thorne place. J. P. Hovey was elected first vice president and J. G. Minor second vice president. Other officers chosen were John Hessenauer, treasurer; Paul F. Kinnahan, secretary, and Linn C. Drake, corresponding secretary. Clyde S. Bailey and Mrs. H. J. Steimer were named delegates to the Federation of Citizens’ Associations. Before the close of the meeting the newly elected president, who succeeds Lucian Jordan as head of the associa- tion, announced appointment of the following committee chairmen, to serve for the ensuing year: Mrs. Charles Gude, entertainment; legislation; Mrs. Steimer, membership; Albert Lyman, parks and zoning; L. Ring, police and fire; W. Arthur Snell, public health; E. S. Hobbs, public utilities; Grady P. Oak- ley, publicity; Mrs. J. J. Rodruck, schools; William J. Cornell, streets and highways; C. J. Petersen, water and sewers, and Mrs. D. G. Morris, ordinator with other organizations. A resolution indorsing the move in Congress to investigate milk prices with a view to downward revision of the cost of this dairy product was adopted by the association. A resolution, introduced by Mr. Bailey, proposing a change in the name of the association to the Potomac Palisades Citizens’ Association was held over until the next meeting, when it will be acted upon. This will be the last Thursday in September, unless a spe- cial meeting is called in the meantime. co- 'TRIBUTE TO BE PAID DECEASED OFFICERS Portraits of Distinguished Army Doctors to Be Presented to Medical Center. Portraits in oil of three former dis- tinguished Army medical department officers—the late Maj. Gen. William C. Gorgas, Brig. Gen. James M. Kennedy and Col. John Van R. Hoff—will be presentéd to the commanding general of the Army medical center at Walter Reed Hospital on the morning of Me- morial day. The portraits, the work of the well-known artist Bernhard Godwin of New York and Washington, will be presented with appropriate ceremony in the auditorium of the Army medical center, and they will be placed in the halls of important buildings of the center as memorials to these officers. Maj. Gen. Robert U. Patterson, the surgeon general of the Army, will pre- sent the portrait of the late Gen. Gorgas in behalf of the medical de- partment officers and members of the nurse corps of the Regular Army. Maj. Gen. Merritte W. ROME, May 26—Pope Pius left the Vatican yesterday and drove to the ba- silica of St. John Lateran, the “mother church” of the Roman Catholic world, thus resuming an Ascension day cus- tom abandoned in 1870 upon the fall of Rome. His holiness was ordained a priest at St. John Lateran 54 years ago. The Pontiff became an ordinary Holy Year pilgrim, making one of the prescribed visits to Roman basilicas in order to gain plenary indulgence re- mitting punishment of sins. Visits to other basilicas, St. Paul and St. Mary -Major, are scheduled for June 30 and August 15.
