>12, ¥ MILK TRUST PROBE KED BY CITIZENS Mid-City Group Urges Senate District Committee to Make Inquiry. The Senate District Committee was asked in a resolution adopted by the Mid-City Citizens’ Association last night to thoroughly investigate whether the | profits of the dairy interests here are being taken by a milk trust. Wwilllam S. Simpson, former local dairyman, in speaking before the asso- clation on existing conditions and com- | plications in the dairy business, told the association “that as it now stands the local milk dealer is in a continuous dog fight with the farmer, the Heaith De- partment, the competitor and the public.” He contended that a Senate investigation may be instrumental in working out a solution to the present condition and suggested that legislative | action on a minimum scale on wholesale | milk would be of some benefit | anlfl% access to a local dairy’s figures | for the last few months, he said that present operations are at a loss of $1.38 per $100. When asked about the com- parison of milk prices of Baltimore and Washington he asserted that special | delivery service here is an enormous expense, that one-third of the milk sold in Washington was sold at a wholesale price. The prices of class 1 milk in Balti- more is 22 cents per gallon and 11 cents per quart, while in Washington it is 27 | cents per gallon and 13 cents per quart, he said. George A. Warren contended a profit | was being obtained and cited several cases of successful milk dealers when milk was sold for 9 cents per quart, | and there was no corporation control of milk production and distribution. The association in another resolution | protested against the proposed changes | to Thomas Circle which it is said | would relieve traffic congestion in that | area. The widening of Thirteenth | street between Massachusetts avenue | and Logan Circle was asked and the adoption of a crosstown bus service on | K street from Twelfth street northeast to Thirty-second street northwest wi recommended. A. J. Driscoll, president of the asso- clation, presided at the meeting held in the Thomson School, Twelfth and L streets, and announced that the next meeting would be held in September. : — = INDIANAPOLIS RACERS CHECK GAS MILEAGE New Regulation on Speedway Limits Fuel Capacity to 15 Gallons, By the Associated Press. INDIANAPOLIS, May 23.—At the motor speedway here today, where the annual 500-mile automobile race will be run May 30, several of the country’s most daring pilots engaged in the pro- saic business of determining what mile- age they were getting from a gallon of gasoline. In past races, some cars have used as much as 40 gallons. Yesterday qualifying trials were marred by an acaident in which Al Aspen, driver, and Mitz Davis, me- chanic, both of Philadelphia, received minor hurts when their racer went into a 1,000-foot skid on the first turn of their fourth lap during sn attempt to | qualify. ‘The only driver yesterday to pass the m’m test was Mark Billman of In- jpolis.
