ISHBEL MDONALD | AT LABOR HEARINGi Spends Part of Final Day in Capital Listening to Sec- retary Perkins. By the Associated Press. A labor hearing on Capitol Hill, with testimony by Secretary Frances Per- kins, was the high light of this final cday of Ishbel MacDonald’s visit in Washington. i Intensely interested in labor, Miss MacDonald eagerly accepted the invi- tation to go with Mrs. Roosevelt to the Capitol, where Miss Perkins appeared as a witness before the House Labor Committee on the Black 30-hour work week bill. Ishbel’s day also included a luncheon as the guest of Undersecretary of State, Phillips and Mrs. Phillips and tea at the White House before catching a 5:50 | pm. train. Leaves a Day Early. Miss MacDonald is leaving the Capi- tal a day in advance of her father, the British prime minister, so she may visit Miss Lillian Wald, long-time friend of the MacDonald family, at Westport, Conn. She arranged for a final press con- ference before she departs to supple- ment, perhaps, the views on interna- tional understanding that Mrs. Roose- velt gave yesterday. Mrs. Roosevelt spoke of the simi- larity of her experiences with those of Miss MacDonald, both being inter- ested primarily in education, politics and labor. In listening to both the prime min- ister and Miss MacDonald, Mrs. Roose- velt said, she had been struck with the thought that the United States and Great Britain have traveled much the same route in these difficult times— and have come to much the same con- clusions. Urges Co-operation. She pronounced it not merely desira- ble, but imperative, that some basis of international co-operation be found. Accompanying her father, Ishbel had breakfast yesterday at the home of Senator Borah, luncheon at the Cana- dian legation, tea at the home of for- mer Secretary of State Stimson and dinner at the British embassy. Briefly she visited Mrs. Roosevelt's regular press conference, but was not present to hear the high compliment Mrs. Roosevelt paid her, saying she was | & “perfectly charming person.” HORSE SHOW PLANNED FOR ARMY RELIEF, Civilian and Military to CompeteE in Thirteen Classes at Fort Myer. i Civilian and military horsemen will match skill in 13 classes of an Army relief horse show at Fort Myer, Va.,| next Saturday, according to plans an. nounced today by the committee in | charge at the Army post. | Four competitions for children, twe ladies’ divisions, a special class for Rid. ing and Hunt Club hunters, open jump- ing, enlisted men's tests and other features will be included on the pro- gram.
