SCHLOSSER REGAIN POLIGEMAN'SBADGE Officer, Cleared of Hit-and- Run Charge, Restored to Ninth Precinct’ Duty. Policeman W. T. Schlossser, who yes- terday was cleared on & hit-and-run charge involving the death of Miss Ma- thilda King, 58, was restored to duty at the ninth precinct this morning. He had been under suspension. Police Court Judge Isaac R. Hitt dis- missed the charge against Schlosser, who was alleged to have fatally in- jured Miss King in an automobile acci- dent in the 2800 block of Massachusetts avenue last November 18. Schlosser testified his first recollec- tion that he might have been involved in an acoident came the day after Miss King was struck when he noticed the front bumper of his machine was dam- aged. After reading news accounts of her death, Schlosser said he called his precinct station and told them of the damage to his car. It was raining the night of the accident. Shortly after, the tragedy, & coroner’s jury ordered Schlosser held for the grand jury, but the grand jury ignored the case. More than 20 character witnesses ap- peared yesterday for Schlosser, who was represented by Attorney James A. O'Shea. The Government’s counsel was Assistant United States Attorney Raymond Sparks. CHARGES WHITEWASH IN HOSPITAL PROBE Mrs. Norton Criticizes Dr. Eise- man’s Report on Treatment of Eugene Houghton. Chairman Norton of the House Dis- trict Committee today received from Dr. Francis J, Eiseman, superintendent of Garfield Hospital, and from the Metro- politan Police Department reports which she had requested regarding the treat- ment of Eugene Houghton, injured last week by an automobile at Fourteenth and Euclid streets. Mrs. Norton had protested that Houghton had been listed as drunk, handcuffed to a policeman and forced to sit up in patrol while being taken from Garfleld ta Gallinger Hospital, although at the latter hospital he was found to be suffering from a fractured skull. The letter from Dr. Eiceman was termed by Mrs. Norton as “a white- wash.” She said the report from the Pclice Department contradicts it in a statement of facts. “Mr. Houghton would not have been placed in the south building of Gal- linger Hospital with the psychopathic cases,” Mrs. Norton commented, “unless the case was diagnosed as drunkenness by the Garfield Hospital attendants. It is not for the Police Department to diagnose a case; it rests solely with the medical authorities at the hospital; the police followed the instructions given them when the patrol arrived.” In his letter, Dr. Eiseman said: “We regret exceedingly that you feel as you do regarding the service we render to the community. Garfield Hos- pital has been in operation for over 50 years, and it has always been our aim and desire to render the best service possible. Our policy could not permit us to be otherwise.” Fruhauf Clothes CLEARANCE Merchandise of Reliable Quality at - AUTHENTIC REDUCTIONS Pajamas Were Suits —now— $1875 - $2675 $3150 53850 $1.00 G Special Lot, were $7 & $10..........$4.35 $3.00 (Self striped) A Fine Linen Handkerchiefs Were 25c¢ ..
