FEATURE OF WISV WILL BE OPERETTA Condensed Version of “The| 2:30—Ceremonies tn g;‘",,:,“‘,‘{',,‘,,:"bér’} Chocolate Soldier” on Program Tonight. A condensed version of Oscar Strauss’ operetia “The Chocolate Soldier” will be presented tonight by the Aborn Opera Co. as a feature of the Five Star Theater program over WJSV and affili- ated Columbia stations. “The Chocolate Soldier” is the musi- cal version of Bernard Shaw's play “Arms and the Man.” In the radio g.roduction Edward Nell, jr., and Gladys xter wil sing the principal roles. John Corigliano, violinist, will be the soloist with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra during its concert from 11 to 11:30 o'clock. He will play the andante and rondo movements of Lalo's colorful “Symphonie Espagnole.” The orches- tral part of the program will open with the “Overture Miniature,” from Tschai- kowsky's “Nutcracker Suite.” It will be followed by the intermezzo to act 2 of Wolf-Ferrari’s opera “Jewels of the Madonna” and the “Village Dance” of Burleigh. Jack Denny and Orchestra. Jack Denny and his orchestra will feature the popular melody “Love Is Sweeping the County” during their broadcast with Evan Evans, baritone, from 8:45 to 9 o'clock. Evans wul con- tribute “Take Me in Your Arms. The Boswell Sisters will sing “Black- Eyed Susan Brown” and “I'm Sure of Everything” as_the highlights of their program with Nat Shilkret’s Orchestra at 9 o'clock. The orchestra will intro- duce a fox trot versior of “Sylvia” and 1ty arrangement of Olsen and Johnson, comedians, Wwill return to the air tonight as the guest artists on the Sunshine Hour with Rudy Vallee over WRC and associated N. Sidetracking its broadcasting worrles for the time being, the Federal Radio Commission is delving into a thorough investigation of the commercial com- munications aspects of radio in an at- tempt to bring its regulation abreast of latest technical and economic develop- ments in the field. As a first step, it will reopen the four- year-old controversy involving the pro- posed use of the continental short waves for domestic radiotelegraph services to be established in competition with wire lines. By special action of the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbtl. the commission will inquire deeply inf t,he corporate and business set-ups o( C. A. Communications, Inc, and Mlchy Radio & Telegraph Co., both applicants for channels with which to establish comprehensive telegraph urerv- our years f#go the commission decided against the applications of these com- panies, only to have them emerge vic- torious in the Court of Appeals.
