C, JUNE 26, 19 —PART TWO Navy Abandons Elaborate Program to Supervise No- vember 6 Election. | The Navy Department yesterday said the program for supervising the Nicara- | guan elections in November by United States Marines had been canceled. Maj. Gen. Ben H. Fuller, comman- dent of the Marine Corps, issued or- ders to the authorities at Quantico, Va., and San Diego, Calif., to abandon the elaborate plans for supervising the bal- loting. It is considered likely that some 25 officers wili go to Nicaragua from Quantico, Va., to supervise the election in the republic on November 6, but as far as can be learned, few. if any, en- listed men will be dispatched on that duty. The naval transport Henderson is scheduled to sail from Quantico on July 6 for Nicaragua. The plan was to put the Marines ashore at Corinto, Nicaragua. In view of the altered con- ditions, the Henderson will likely take only replacements for men now on duty in Nicaragua, whose enlistments are | nearing an end, or sick men who must be hospitalized in the United States. | Lieut. Col. Charles F. B. Price a short time ago went to Nicaragua by | airplane to lay the groundwork for the electoral machinery The Senate adopted an amendment by Senator Robinson of Arkansas, the Democratic leader, which would bar the | use of any of the $319,000,000 in the naval supply bill for being used to transport Marines to Nicaragua to par- ticipate in the election. ‘ Y.
