C., THURSDAY, LIPSCOMB RITES -SET FOR TOMORROW Prominent Capital Contractor to Rest in Congressional Cemetery After Funeral at Home. Rites Today William Prince Lipscomb, prominent Washington contractor and head of the William P. Lipscomb Co., who died early yesterday at his home in the Ontario Apartments, will be buried in Congres- sional Cemetery tomorrow, after funeral services at 2:30 p.m. at his home. A resident of the District since 1871, Mr. Lipscomb was a member of the Association of Oldest Inhabitants of the District of Columbia, and had been first vice president of the District National Bank for many years. He was born in King William County, Va., in 1847, and enlisted in the Confederate Army at the age of 17. His company had built many of the outstanding embassies, homes, churches and office buildings in the city. Besides his widow, he is survived by two children, Helen Lipscomb Rea, wife of Capt. Everett Foster Rea, stationed at Fort Meade, Md, and George W. Lipscomb, a civil enxlneel’ connected with the firm. MAJ. WII.LIA‘\I l SIMP?O\? FUNERAL RITES HELD FOR HARVEY K. SHANER Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock this morning at Sacred Heart Churgh for Harvey K. Shaner, 53, retired painter, who died Monday at his resi- dence, 1358 Monroe street. Rev. Thomas Cunningham celebrated the requiem mass, which was followed by interment in the family lot in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Sullivan, C. H. Ludlow, Robert Tuite, A. M. Shaner, he is survived by four | JUNE 9, 1932. FUNERAL IS HELD FOR MAJ. SIMPSON Prominent Church and Boy Scout Leader Paid Final Tribute at Serv- ices in Western Presbyterian. Funeral services for Maj. William I Simpson, prominent in church cir- cles and in the Boy Stout movement, who died Tuesday at his home, in the Park Central Apartments, were held at 2 pm. today at Western Presby- terian Church. Burial was private in Oak Hill Cemetery. Born in Baltimore in 1850, during the Civil War, he helped care for the sick and wounded in Armory Square Hospital, after having been turned down for enlistment as a drummer be- cause of his youth. He enlisted in the National Guard in the late sixties, on its reorganization. He, entered the Treasury Depart- ment in 1874 and served .as record clerk until 1930, when he was retired. He was senior elder of the Western Presbyterian Church and for many years conducted a Sunday school class for boys. Since 1910 he had been active in Boy Scout work and was the first Washingtonian to receive the 20- year veteran award. Recently he was awarded the silver beaver by the Na- tional Scout Council for “distinguished service to boyhood.” He was a life member of Hiram Lodge, No. 10, P A AM He is survived by a daughter, Miss Mae Simpson, and a sister, Mrs. A. Schombert, 87, Elevator Operator Since War, Was Il Six Months. William H. Schombert, 67, an employe of The Star for more than )3 years, Gied last night at his home, 2521 H street, after an {illness of six months. Mr. Schombert entered The Star service as an elevator operator during the war and had continued in that capacity until he became {ll last No- vember. He was cne of the m-st widely known workers in the crganization and knew by name virtually all the tenants of the building as well as fellow em- ployes of the paper. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary C. Schombert, and three sons, John, Wilten and George Schombert, all of this city.
