Erlanger, who five years ago protested him to retire as a Supreme Court Jus- tice because he was 70 years old, ob- tained a license today to marry Janet Nordenshield, 48. Erlanger, who is head of the huge theatrical interests left by his brother, A. L. Erlanger, did not say when or where the ceremony would be per- | formed. As he ylelded to the retirement law, Justice Erlanger said: “The New York State constitution says that when a man reaches the age of 70 he is senile and mentally unfit. WAS: iW. W0UiN, D, C. COSMIC RAYS MAY PROVE ELECTRONS | Nature Indicated by First Reports of Expeditions Made for Study. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, June 9.—The Herald and Examiner said today it had learned that first reports from the University of Chicago's expeditions in various parts of the world investigating the nature of cosmic rays indicated the rays were electrons. Sclentists have been divided whether the rays were electrons or photons. Dr. Arthur H. Compton, Nobel Prize winner and professor cf physics at the university, was the first of 18 investi- gators to report his findings. He has measured the intensity of the rays in Hawail, New Zealand, Austra- lia_and Panama. Others are working in Patagonia, Chile, South Africa, Kash- mir, Ceylon, Java, China and other points.
