Fuller of Mas:achusetts was put forward today as a candidate for the Republican vice presidential nomination by Charles A. | Young, formerly active in Bay State politics. | If the Republicans are not to pick Vice President Curtis, Mr. Young, who ( makes his home in Washington, believes Mr. Fuller would make an excellent running mate for President Foover, | and, morevoer, would greatly strengthen | the ticket in Massachusetts this year. By the Associated Press. FLEMINGTON, N. J, June 9.—An assertion that 10 bending companies re- fused to furnish his bail because they were “afraid” was made last night by John Hughes Curtis, Norfolk shipbuilder awaiting trial on a charge of misdirect- ing the Lindbergh baby search. In his first public statement since he was incarcerated, May 18, Curtis de- clared the only reason he did not post bond was that he could not get He denied he himself was “afraid of any one.” until his trial, he said. The trial was set for June 27, but indications are that it would be put over until September. In commenting on what he called the “mighty harsh things” which have been said about him, Curtis said he could have answered on a number of occa- sions, but kept silent because “I do not at this time desire to get into any argu- ment with any cne.” Under the circumstances, he observed, some of the “harsh things” might have been “justifiable.” The daily news says any hope of trac- ing the slayers of the Lindbergh baby by means of the serial numbers of the $50,000 ransom paid by Dr. John F.
