B—12 ORDERS NEW TRIAL N ROBBERY CASE Virginta Court of Appeals Re- verses Decision of Fair- fax Bench. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star RICHMOND, Va., January 15.—The Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals yes- terday reversed and remanded for a new | trial the case of Stanley Ayres from the Circuit Court of Fairfax Counmty.| Ayres was convicted of robbery and sen- tenced to serve eight years in the peni- | tentiary. It was alleged that he robbed William J. Vaughan of Washington of $10 after | Vaughan had been lured into the coun- | try several miles out from Alexandria by | two young women after being picked up in a car by them The appellate court in reversing the case said that the commonwealth failed | to prove the taking of any property | from Vaughan. The circumstances, it | sdded, are suspicious, but the accused | t be deprived of his liberty on Music and Musicians Reviews and News of Capita]'s programs. Bagpipes Score at Children’s Symphony Concert. THERE were two real thrills at the fourth children’s concert of the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hans Kindler yester- day afternoon at Central High School, first, when John Stone il- lustrated the speed of the tuba by laying “When Rhuba Plays the ba Down in Cuba,” to the great amusement of every one present, and | second, when a real Scot in Kkilts and sporran came marching down the aisle and straight onto the stage playing the bagpipes. Mr. Gar- rioch was imported from Rockville especially for this occasion He played three merry tunes with the children nearly falling over the balcony in excitement and the or- chestra and conductor equally fasci- nated. When the music was done Mr. Kindler remarked: “I can't help it, I like it.” And no one would have disagreed with him. The four chief iwatruments among the brasses were ea&h given a chance to play solos to dEplay their range and tone and speed. One tiny girl, with curls and Ber finger in her mouth went ws#dering up to the stage to see thé trumpet. The rich color of a brass en- | semble was beautifully demonstrated by their playing of a Bach “Chorale.” This made at least one member of the audience homesick for that trombone choir of the Bach festivals in Bethlehem. For contrast the strings alone played two numbers from Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite.” “Ase's Death” InousTRY In WasningTon ~—and major phases of its operation, will be the subject of a lecture course for students of George Wash- ington University and employes of the Washington Gas Light Company beginning SATURDAY, JANUARY 16 In Corcoran Hall, Room 10, George Washington University, at 2:30 p.m. One executive of the gas company will speak each Saturday at the same hour on his particular branch of the industry.
