C. pioneer in high-tension hydro-electric power development and transmission in the United States and Canada, as president of the American Engineering Council was announced &t the annual meeting of the council in the Mayflower Hotel today Mr. Lee, who is president of the W. S. Lee Engineering Corporation, vice chair- man of the Duke Endowment and an officer and consultant, with headquar- ters in Neg York, of many large public utility and industrial enterprises, suc- ceeds Carl E. Grunsky of San Fran- cisco. During 1932 he will direct a large program of public service, including em- ployment activity by committees in 46 States, to be framed by the council at its Washington sessions. Mr. Lee was born in Lancaster, S. C. in 1872 He is president and chief engineer of the Pledmont & Northern Railway Co and vice president and chief engineer of the Duke Power Co.. the Catawba Power Co.. the Wateree Power Co., the Western Carolina Power Co. and the Catawba Manufacturing & Electric Co. He is a director of the American Cyan- amid Co. and of the Duke Power Co. The Public Affairs Committee, cf which R. F. Sohuchardt of Chicago is chairman, favored the bill of Repre- sgentative Green, sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, re- quiring the Secretary of the Treasury to employ private architects in the de- signing and planning of public build- ings.
