LEBANON, Ind., September 29 (#).— Mrs, Carrie Simmons, Simmons, & Hancock County farmer, went on frial yesterday on a charge of polsoning her two daughters. She is f#ccused of first degree murder. Mrs. Simmons is alleged to have placed poison in chicken sandwiches served at a family reunion here last June. CHICAGO, September 29.—An en- tirely Americanized Bible is soon to make its appearance. The New Testament version will be by Dr. Edgar J. Goodspeed, while the Old Testament will be presented by Dr. J. M. Powis Smith. Both are members of the faculty of the University of Chi- cago. “We feel our work will supply a great public need,” Dr. Goodspeed said yesterday, “for while King James' ver- sion is a very lovely one, and there will always be those who cling to this old translation, the majority of the peo- ple do not understand the meaning of the Bible in its old terminology.” Dr. Goodspeed said that from the discovery of old Papyrus documents in Egypt, left by the Grecian colonists of many centuries ago, scientists had solved the mystery of the wording of the ?reek translation of the New Testa~ ment. “It has been mnoted by all the stu- dents in this fleld,” he said, “that the Greek of the New Testament was not classic in form, and did not, in fact, conform with that of any other known documents. However, with these com- paratively recent discoveries of Papyri contemporary with this Greek transla- tion, the mystery has been solved.
