BISHOP BEAUCHAMP DIES AT RICHMOND Methodist Foreign Mission Leader Fails to Rally From Anemia. By the Associated Press. RICHMOND, Va., June 29.—Bishop William Benjamin Beauchamp of the Methodist Episcopal Church South died at Stuart Circle Hospital Iast night. Bishop Beauchamp was 62 years old and was widely known for his work as for- eign ambassador and missionary diplo- mat of his denomination. Three weeks ago Bishop Beauchamp was taken to the hospital suffering from pernicious anemia, from which he falled to rally. Raised $35,000,000. He was head of the centenary cam- paign of the church, which he ‘carried through e enceess by raising $35,000,- o000 %or world-wide mission causes. Later, upon his elevation to the epis- copacy in 1922, he was placed in charge of European missions. In 1926 Bishop Beauchamp was choseen president of the World Broth- erhood, an international organisation of Christian laymen, with headquar- ters in London. From 1926 to 1930 he was :nanl superintendent of the North and South Georgia Conferences and of the mission in Mexico. The follow- ing year he was given the Episcopal district embracing the Baltimore and Virginia Conferences. Leaves Eight Children. Born at Farnham, Va., Bishop Beau- champ attended local public schools and Randolph Macon College at Ash- land and Vanderbilt University. He held pastorates in Louisville, Ky., and Danville and Portsmouth, Va., and was stationed at Nashville for a number of years. He is survived by eight children. CHARLES L. CURTISS DIES AT HOME HERE Retired Government Worker Passes Away at Age of 83—Once law Firm Member. Charles Lewis Curtiss, 83, a resident of Washington for more than 55 years, died yesterday at his home, 1440 Bel- mont street. Mr. Curtiss at one time was a member of the law firm of Dun- nell, Curtiss & Paxton, long out of exist- ence. . Born in Norwalk, Ohio, in 1848, Mr. Curtiss came here in 1876 as an employe of the Government. He received his law degree from Columbian College (now George Washin, University) and then entered private practice as an attorney. After practicing law for several years, he returned to the Govérnment service, working in the'auditor’s office, Treasury Department, and the Census Bureau until his retirement about 10 years ago. He was a member of the Benjamin B. French Lodge, F. A. A. M.; the Ohio Soclety of Washington and the Fire- lands Historical Society of Ohio. Besides his widow, Mrs. Minnie E. Curtiss, he is survived by four children, Mrs. James Howell Gordon, Miss Jullet Curtiss and Charles L. Curtiss, jr., of Washington, and Robert B.
