NENGO CANBLING HOLSES TO RENAN Government to Control Places—Roulette and Bac- carat to Be Barred. MEXICO CITY, June 12 (#).—A denial that the government would take immediate steps to close gambling es- tablishments in Mexican cities located along the American border was made today by Acting Minister of the interior Octavio Mendoza Gonzalez, He explained that a decree issued several days ago was intended to pre- pare the way for legislation to control gaming establishments. Once the leg- islation is enacted roulette, baccarat and other games prohibited by law would be barred, he indicated, but this will not be for some time. The decree returns the right of granting concessions to the federal dis- trict government and the treasury de- partment, and leaves the interior de- partment with only the right to grant concessions to commercial establish- ments and lottery companies. In all these cases only the class of gambling allowed by the constitution will be permitted. The federal district government will grant concessions for the federal district, and aspects of the concessions affecting taxation will be referred to the treasury department. ———— An American life insurance company | has purchased a large bank and | industrial building in Hongkong, China, | for nearly . quarter million dollars, SOCIALIST TO SPEAK .
