UPPER MARLBORO, Md., June 12. —A sult against Paul E. Dement for $10,000 damages for the killing of Claude E. Hughes during a neighbor- hood quarrel at Branchville February 23, was filed in Circult Court yesterday by Mrs. Virginia Hughes, widow of the | slain man, and her five children. in April and acquitted. Hughes was stabbed with,a penknife wielded by Dement while the two were arguing about their children. He died :n Providence Hospital several days ater. ‘The suit was filed yesterday, through titling only, there being no declaration presented to the court. Leroy Pumph- rey, who acted as special prosecutor during the Dement trial, appears for the Hughes family. Damages of $30,000 were asked in an- other suit filed yesterday by Miss Alice May Brennan, University of Maryland | student, who was seriously injured in an automobile collision involving her | car and one driven by Frank P. Slaff at College Park several months ago. | Slaff was named defendant in the suit, which was filed through Attorneys M. Hampton Magruder and Henry I.
