The leaders at the end were U. 8. Steel among the industrials, American Telephone & Telegraph among the util- itles, and N. Y. Central among the rails. The net result was to demonstrate that the technical position 1is such that stocks respond more readily to opera- tions for the rise than to offerings for short account. It is still a market without public interest, but that is always true at the end of & major decline. Copper stocks were in supply from the start because of the bearish copper metal statistics. At the end of May refined copper in North and South America, according to the statement given out today, totaled 398,667 short tons, an increase of 30,746 tons over Apnl Production was 102,695 tons in y, against 100,501 in April, while lhlpmenu in May were only 71,949 tons, against 86,785 in April.
