ROTARY T0 CREATE SUDENTAD FUN Club to Make Loans to Help Worthy Pupils Continue Their Education. Creation of a student loan fund as a major continuing activity of the Rotary Club of Washington was announced yesterday through its president, Henry N. Brawner. In his announcement he said the aim of the fund is “to fur- nish financial aid to students who are | desirous of continuing their education but who are unable to do so for the lack of necessary funds.” The student loan fund was organized for the benefit of male students of Dis- trict high schools and colleges prin- cipally, but in exceptional cases, finan- | cial aid may be extended to students of other than local educational institu- tions. The financial aid will take the form of loans, with interest at 4 per | cent, under such conditions as reason- | ably to assure their repayment into the student loan fund. Members of Comitiee. This new Rotary undertaking has been placed in charge of a special com- mittee composed of Dr. Lucius C. Clark, chancellor of American Univer- sity; Dr. Frank W. Ballou, superin- tendent of schools; Harold A. Brooks, John C. Letts and Chester D. Swope. The original members of this commit- three, four and five vears, respectively, three, four and five years respectively and thereafter one member will be ap- pointed each year for a five-year term Application _ blanks will be provided | for students desirous of making loans. All applications will be thoroughly in- Vestigated and loans limited to those who qualify on a basis of character, aptitude, scholarship and physical and mental condition. Only those who are unable to secure the necessary aid from other sources will be considered and no loan will be extended to any student except with the approval of his par- ents, guardians or other responsble par- ties, including the educational suthori- ties under whom he has been studying. Secured by Insurance. Except in unusual cases, the amount of the loan will not exceed $300 in any one year, single payments limited to $50 or 50 per cent of the total annual expence, whichever is the lesser of the two amounts. | |few days ago. | owners of the colony kept their estab- | lishments open for visits of sons and Health Speaker ADDRESSES NUTRITION CON- YENTION OF RED CROSS. !
