They drove back to Nina's, past the outskirts of Kingsway Village, past the big stone-walled, mysterious area of the Kingsway estate. It always held a queer fascination for Helen. She had never, it happened, been inside by daylight. Without saying anything much, Nina had, it occurred to Helen, always sur- rounded and tacitly possessed Ethan Kingsway whenever he had come any- where near. Helen remembered, idl: something Ethan had said about he always being too busy to—was it accept his invitations? No, something not quite as definite. Nina took no chances, Helen thought, with a smile of amuse- ment over the unnecessary thoroughness of that. “What's the joke, darling?” Tommy asked, seeing her smile. “Oh, just thinking about something connected with Nina's Mr. Kingsway,’ she sald. 1 hate that guy,” stated Tommy. No man sticks around ten years that way.” “Let me out quick, Tommy, there's a lamb. It must be quite dinner time. And I see Nina coming up the street.” Nina, in a very smart black satin, marched toward her house with her lizard bag in one hand and what looked suspiciously like the first prize, a large white tissue paper parcel tied with rib- bons held carelessly in the other, She waved it at them and said an unsur- prised “Hello!” as they met. “Nina, in me you see a future cousin,’ Tommy called ously, falling violently on her with'a hug. and I are on the vel of matrimony.” Nina kigsed him politely anl cated hegself. extri- “It isn't quite the shock it mi, b she said. “Of course, you're robb of somel I can’t replace, but I pose it be helped. SEAL VISITS PARIS Strange Reports, ll:minl!eent of Medieval Times, Result. PARIS (N.AN.A).—Fabulous news is flying about the fair land of France In this year of grace 193—strange vo- ports that savor of medieval lsgend and old-time romance. The other day a seal was seen in the Seine. The creature disported ltself in the stretzh of river in front of the Chamber of Deputics and is sald to have been in the company of a few sea-gulls. Had the seal arrived from the Aretic regions, or was it out on a littl> private ;-xplornlmn durnlnq its afternoon off rom a menagerie or traveling circu: Probably it was a kindly, performing seal, bent on giving the Deputies a little recreative entertainment. The river authorities have even now taken no cognizance of its visit and the inspector general of navigation of the Seine, on being apprised of this new wonder near ths Pont de la Con- corde, betrayed no common amazement, but calmly drew sttention to the fact | that a seal visited the capital at the time of Napoleon III. BERLIN (N.AN.A.) —There are many who now declare Berlin to be Europe's gayest city. Certainly it is the lat'st to bed and the most or- ganized of cities in its gayety. There i a Teutonic thorougiiness and | method about Berlin's amusements. It is apparent in German gambling. Ger- mans are good gamblers and they will soon be showing the world how good .| they are, not in foreign casinos, but at home, for they propose to introduce casino gambling on an unprecedented scale at their own principal spas. This will be a new source of revenue and another one of those departures that put Paris on its mettle.
