A—10 1931 WHEAT POLICY ISNGT DETERMINED Chairman Legge Declares Board Undecided on Ef- fort at Stabilization. ' By the Associated Press. SPRINGFIELD, Ill, January 30.— The Federal Farm Board, Chairman Alexander Legge sald yesterday, has not yet decided whether to attempt to stabilize the price of the 1931 wheat erop, as it has done wifh the 1930 vield. Legge, attending the Iilinois Agricul- tural Association meeting here, denied 8 report that formal action would be taken on continued -protection of the domestic price “until we know hetter what to expect from the 1931 crop.” Wants Acreage Reduced. He warned United States wheat grow- ers to reduce the acreage of their 1931 €rop 20 per cent in order to prevent a repetition of the 1930 surplus and thus avold counteraction of efforts to stabilize the price. “Producers should realize they should not count on wheat as an export crop,” he said. “A 20 per cent crop reduction will be necessary to put wheat on a domestic market basis where it belongs. Co-operation with the Government's stabilizing program by reducing acreage 15 the farmer’s only way out.” Will Not Dump Wheat. Legge said the United States must stay out of the export market, as “Rus- sia and other producing countries were flooding consuming countries with wheat.” He said the board might set aside part of the 1931 crop as it did a year ago, but that “in no event will wheat be dumped on the market. It -m be returned in a judicious manner.” In time, he said, other farm products tnay need Government protection of prices.
