ARTHUR JEFFERS DIES SUDDENLY HERE Manager of Red Cross on Pacific Coast Formerly Headed Wash- ington Division. J. Arthur Jeffers, manager of the Pacific area of the American Red Cross since 1927 and prior to then for three years manager of the Washington di- vision of the Red Cross, with headquar- ters in this city, dled in the Raleigh Hotel early today after an illness of a few hours. Mr. Jeffers, who was 60 years old, came here Friday to confer with Na- tional Red Cross officlals. He had been connected with the Red Cross since 1917. His headquarters for the past three years had been in San Francisco. In 1917 Mr, Jeffers organized a Red Cross chapter in Pueblo, Colo.,, where he was pastor of the First Congrega- tional Church of that place. Prior to then he had served as pastor of various churches. In 1919 Mr. Jeffers joined the staff of the Red Cross as director of soldier relief work and in 1924 he became man- ager of the Washington division. He 1s survived by his widow.
