The Georgetown Presbyterian Church, one of the.most historic in Washington, will celebrate the 150th nnnlversnry of its organization the week of November 30. Among famous men who attended services at this church in its, early years were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, when President of the United States; Albcrt Gallatin, Secretary of Treasury, and M. Pechion, French Ambassador who was sent here by Napoleon to receive the money from the sale of Lousiana in 1803. Dr. Stephen B. Balch, who organized the first congregation in 1780 and was its pastor for many years, baptized the child of the French Ambassador and the next morning M. Pechion sent him a note inclosing $30, explaining in his broken English, “Ten for de leetle boy, ten for de madame and ten for mine- self,” mentioning that in France it was customary to pay for baptisms. The first place of worship used by the congregation was a small frame building on the north side of M street near Thirty-third street which was used week days as a school and on the Sabbath as a church. There were six persons present at the first service. In 1782 Dr. Balch raised funds to erect a church building at the corner of Thirtieth and M _streets, M street then being known as Bridge street. The original bulldlns was enlarged at dif- ferent times and for some years it was the only church building in existence i Georgetown for all the Protestant de- nominations. The old building was torn down in 1821 and a larger one emected which stood until 1873, when it was demol- ished and the present building erected on P street near Thirty-first street. P street then was known as West street. A few years ago the name of the church was changed to the Georgetown Pres- bymhn hurch to define its location. Rev. Frank Sergeant Niles assumed the pastorate this yelr after a service of 15 years in Cl Lincoln Temple Services. At the services of Lincoln Congrega- tional Temple tomorrow morning Rev. R. W.
