Joerling, special Federal prohibition investigator, yesterday an- nounced the discharge of Willis A. Buck, | an enforcement agent, storm center of & recent controversy between Vice President Curtis and Maj. Maurice ‘Campbell, former New York prohibition director. Buck was dismissed September 30, Mr. Joerling said. | Joerling said the charge against the agent included being absent from . his station without leave, alleged collusion | with law violators and an alleged as-| sault without justification on a private eitizen in Oklahoma. In copyrighted articles appearing in | New York newspapers recently, Maj. Maurice Campbell, former prohibition director for New York, charged . that Vice President Curtis used his political influence to retain Buck in the prohibi- tion service after Buck had been charged with manipulating his expense account. Explaining h‘{alction in the case, the Vice President later said he had inter- ceded for Buck only after he learned that' members of the Kansas congres- sional delegation favored his retention on the ground he had not been given a fair hearing.
