By the Associated Press. HAMMONDSPORT, N. Y., July 24.— The body of Glenn Hammond Curtiss, whose ploneer exploits in aviation gained for this village the title of “Cradle of " Aviation,” arrived today from Buffalo, where he died yesterday. Rev. G. P. Summerville, rector of the St. James' Episcopal Church of Hammondsport, will officiate at the services tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery. Scores of telegrams and cablegrams of sympathy were received at the Curtiss residence, while leaders in the world of aviation were united in their praise of the notable contributions Mr. Curtiss had made to the science of acronautics. Curtis, famous aviation was recalled today by a former employer as “a lad with dreams in his eyes” | Curtiss began his career here at the | age of 12, and it was while & messenger boy for the Western Union Telegraph Co. that he hit on the idea of providing mecharfical power to propel the bicycle he used to deliver messages. John A. Nolan. former chief operator for the Bell Telephone Co., remembered the ploneer aviator as & dependable youth. We could always depend on Curtiss elivering the messages,” sald Mr. Nolan. “At that time we had only about 800 telephones in the city, and it was no little job to rouse some one on the outskirts and have him come down and answer the phome at the Arcade Buflding. “Other boys_usually brought back excuses, but Curtiss always ‘got his man.'" Curtiss lived here until 1898. They planned to leave itmediately for Honolulu, but jusg then President Hoover sent out an urgent call for the Utah Senator to eturn. He needed him to help insure a quorum to consider the London naval treaty. Smoot, revised his plans and returned to help ratify the treaty.
