4 HOUSE MEMBERS SENATE NOMINEES {Two Others Facing Primaries | in Race for Upper Body. By the Associated Press. Four of six House members seeking | senatorial seats in the next Congress | have hurdled the hazardous pr(mlfles‘y and the remaining two will take the | preliminary jumps early in August. Representatives Ruth Hanna McCor- mick of Illinois, White of Maine, Dick- inson of Towa and Pritchard of North Carolina have won Republican nomina- tions in their respective States. Representative Sproul of Kansas is waging a heated campaign for the Republican nomination in his _State August 5, while Representative Cordell Hull of Tennessee, Democrat, hopes to receive the nomination of his party August 7. | Mrs. McCormick and Pritchard are one-termers in the House. On the other hand, Dickinson is serving his | twelfth year, White his fourteenth, Sproul his eighth and Hull his twenty- nd. The Tllinois Representative was con- | gressman at large, while Pritchard was | swept into office with the Hoover land- slide in a normally Democratic district. As chairman of the House Appro- priations gSubcommittee for Agriculture Dickinson became a leader in the farm bloc. He sponsored the establishment | of experimental stations and extension | work of the Agriculture Department to | introduce better farming methods. H For many years chairman of the! House Merchant Marine Committee, White became recognized in congres- sional circles as & creator of legislation to stimulate development of American- owned shipping, to encourage and regu- late the radio industry and to formulate a broad Federal fish propagation and conservation program. ‘Sproul, an ardent dry, has actively supported prohibition enforcement, farm relief and legislation looking to im- provement in the condition of the Indian ‘wards of the Government. Known for many years as a_free | trader and as author of important reve- nue laws, including the income tax system, Cordell Hull has established a reputation for broad knowledge of tariff and taxation matters. When Repre- sentative Byrns of Tennessee withdrew from the Demoeratic primaries as a Benatorial candidate to seek re-clection 1 to the House, Hull practically was assured the nomination. SRR | TRV NEW DIEPPE CASINO STAYS ULTRA-MODERN #Une Nuit Aux Enfers” Program Frightens Away Many of Uninformed. @pecial Dispatch to The Star. DIEPPE (N. A. N. A)—The newly rebuilt casino is at ng more and more of the smari world, especially the restaurant, with its gala dinners. Perhaps this is because of the casion's modern cubist design which contrasts %0 oddly with the beaytiful old towers and _turrets of the Norman chateau on_the cliff. Some_of _these dinners are fancy dress affairs, others feature mannequin parades. Recently they staged a gala called “Une Nuit Aux Enfers.” Guests, who had been requested to come in red, black or yellow, found demons with pitchforks * depicted on the windows, while inside raged a “cotillion in- fernale.” 8o thoroughly was it all done that not a few guests were frightened m and dubbed it a little “trop mod~ (cupymne 1930, by North American News- per’ Alliacoe,) INDIAN GOODS MERCHANTS STRIKE ON “REPRESSION” 440 Foreign Cloth Dealers in Bom- bay Affected for Indefi- nite Period.
