DEFENDS INDUSTRY GROWTH N SOUTH Atlanta Rotary Speaker Says New Wealth Depends on Factories. By the Assoclated Press. ATLANTA, July 24—W. D. Anderson, president of the Bibb Manufacturing Co. of Macon, Ga., in an address before the Atlanta Rotary Club Tuesday defended Southern industrialists from ecriticism he said has been directed against them. Business men of this section have a vital interest in anything connected with the possibility of an industrial de- velopment in the South, he said. “Statistics incicate that our agricul- tural program has largely broken down and that as a result the production of new wealth in this section has been badly hindered. Our only hope for the future lies primarily in industrial de- velopment and in a revamping of our agricultural program.” The Southern industrialist has been 80 busy establishing his business that he has had little time or thought for discussing it and his problems with his fellow citizens, Mr. Anderson said. “In the meantime,” he continued, “there has been going on what I shall venture to call a quiet poisoning of the mind of the public against the manufacturers and particularly against the textile manufacturers.” Mr. Anderson said that the principal points of attack made on the South concerned child labor, the mill village, | the wage scale and the hours and con- | BUY-IN-WASHINGTON SUPPORT PROMISED Bhell 0il Company Favors Scheme to Patronize Local Firms. Mrs, Young took up a position on the sidewalk at East thirty- fourth street and South Parkway Saturday with the announced in- tention of remaining there 90 days, reading and singing. She fortified herself with a dozen cans of corned beef and a can opener. She also had a large clothes basket with a fur coat for cover, and there was a fry- ing pan and a small alcohol stove.
