CINCINNATI, Ohio, June 2.—Prob- lems of marriage and divorce were laid before the 142nd General Assembly of ’ the Presbyterian Church in the U. 8. A. today with a lively debate in prospect., ‘The report of the committee on mar- riage, divorce and remarriage was ex- ted to draw the criticism of the mlldelpml Presbytery as dealing too frankly with personal matters. A suggestion that pastors form classes to instruct young persons concerning marriage and sex was included in the report. The church was urged to take a more active interest in marriage, di- vorce and the home and to exert itself to understand “the peculiar social con- ditions in which young people find themselves.” The committee asserted “the attitudes ‘which are to support sex and marriage and the continuing home should be honestly stated.” The younger gener- ation was taken to task for “sagging morality,” but the remedy is better un- aeersn.ndmc not scolding, the commit- ‘The ministry’s present double func- tion of representing both the church and the State in marriage ceremonies was termed unsatisfactory. The com- mittee suggested that in the future two ceremonies might be recommended, gne civil and the other religious.
