Following an illness of several weeks, ‘Thomas L. Smith died at 3 o'clock yes- terday afternoon at his residence, 627 Keefer place. He was 55 years old and had been engaged in the jewelry busi- ness in this city for many years. Mr. Smith was :nusually well known in local Masonic circles, having served | as tiler of Pentalpha Lodge, No. 23, F. A A. M, since December, 1918. He was made 8 Master Mason in 1900. A son of the deceased, Carol R. Smith, is a member of Pentalpha Lodge. Mrs. Sara Jane Crafts, 84 years old, lecturer and writer of note, and long active in religious and temperance or- ganizations, died in Garfield Hospital last night. She had been ill for some time. Mrs. Crafts was the widow of Rev. Wilbur F. Crafts, founder of the Inter- national Reform Bureau. Funeral services are being conducted at Gawler's chapel this afternoon at 4 o'clock, with Rev. Charles Wood, former pastor of the Church of the Covenant, assisted by Rev. Charles H. Butler, pas- tor of the Columbia Heights Lutheran | Church, officiating. Interment will be at Westerly, R. 1., tomorrow beside the grave of her husband. A native of Cincinnati, Mrs. Crafts was the daughter of Jesse and Jane | Means Timanus. She was educated at the Wesleyan Female College of Cincin- nati and at the Jowa College, Daven- port, Towa. She taught in the Normal College of. Minnesota for five years. Subsequently, Mrs. Crafts lectured ex- tensively at chautauquas and at State and international Sunday school con- ventions. She was an organizer of the International Primary Union of Sunday School Teachers. She was a_member of the National Geographic Society. the British Esper- anto Association, the Archeological In- stitute of America, and was superin- tendent of the Sunday School Depart- ment of the World's Women's Christian Temperance Union.
