SACRAMENTO, Calif, April 15— Simulated battles 15,000 feet over Mather Fleld were ordered by the Army Alr Corps’ first provisional wing headquarters here today as the latest Pphase of the maneuvers being held here. Bombardment planes, supported by attack groups, functioning as “bi-place,” or two-man pursult ships, were directed to execute battle maneuvers at “hig] altitude.” ‘The purpose was to give -tuck plnnes chlnoe to show what they could do pursuit units. Mulury experts were said to disagree on the value of single and “bi-place” pursuit planes. The Regular Army pur- suit ships are single man fighters, equipped with machine guns synchro- nized to shoot between whirling pro- peller blades. The attaa: planes carry six machine guns, two in the wings, two to shoot between the propellers and two in the rear cockpit.
