B—10 THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, TUESDAY, APRIL 15, 1930. PROLETARIT PO | e s o ovrameies v | COMNITS SICDE Mayakovsky, Unable to Choose Between Two Ac- tresses, Shoots Seit. By the Associated Press. MOSCOW, April 15.—The love of two widely known Russian actresses drove Vladimir Mayakovsky, leading prole- tariat poet and playwright, to shoot himself through the heart, his friends believed today. Despondent at failure of his last two plays, “Bed Bug” and “Bat H w ‘which were criticized as “ideologically unsound,” the poet, who was 36 years old, found himself unable to choose be- tween the two beautiful women, and took, instead, a quick, effective way out. In a dramatic farewell letter ad- dressed to “everybody,” he begged his mother, sister and comrades to forgive him. Lily Brik, one of the two act- resses, then is mentioned, and a plea made to her to love him. To the government he said: “Com- rade government, my family consists of my mother, my sister, Lily Brik and Veronika Polonskaya. If you will make %le tolerable for them, I shall be thank- “* & * As the saying goes, the inci- dent is closed. But I am even with life now and there is no need for my enu- merating the mutual pains, misfortunes and offenses.” Members of the undefeated George Washington University debating team, ‘When Sergi Essenin, Isadora Duncan’s | Who will meet Boston University tonight.
