FINANCIAL, CURB ISSUES GAIN, WITH OILS LEADING Utilities and Aviation Sec- tions of List Are Also Active. BY JOHN A. CRONE. Eagiel Dispaii. i+ The Star. NEW YORK, April 7.—VUiilities, oils and the aviation shares stood out prom- inently in today's active and irregu-| larly higher Curb market. Fox Theatres Corporation A was one of the | outstanding individual stocks as a re- sult of the sale of control of that com- | pany by William Fox. Electric Bond & Share, American & Forelgn Power, American Superpower, United Light & Poler A and Utili- ties Power & Light opened higher and displayed considerable activity. Other important moves in the utility list included Niagara-Hudson Power, which _eventually is expected to tie in with Consolidated Gas of New York; Eastern States Power B, an affiliate; ] Central States Electric and Common- wealth and Southern Warrants, all of which climbed to new high prices for the year. Nearly a dozen oil issues scored new tops in early trading. This list took in Standard Oil of Indiana, Imperial Oil of Canada, Gulf Oil of Pennsylvania and Pacific Western Oil. Brisk bidding in the oils followed publicatien of favorable trade statistics and analyses. Fox Theaters Corporation A stock opened at 1015, up 11,. and later went to 113 as a resuit of the amicable agreement regched between contending banking and#shareholder groups. Co- lumbia Pictures and National Screen Service for a time also advanced. Douglas Aircraft, which has recently booked several sizeable orders, was whirled to a new altitude. It was fol- Jowed by Irving Air Chute, which re- ports good European business, and by North American Aviation. Niles Be- ment Pond moved higher as a result of an Army order awarded to a subsidiary. The natural gas stocks were led to new high levels by Arkansas Natural Gas, Memphis Natural Gas, Missouri- Kansas Pipe and American Natural Gas. A. O. Smith Corporation was off about 3 points after its 9-point advance last week, while S. H. Dresser Manufac- | turing Co., whose earnings as a result of Natural Pipe Line construction in- creased 43 per cent last year, rose more than a point to & new high level tor‘ the year. NEBRASKA BANKING LAW | WAS BRYAN PRINCIPLE| By the Associated Press. LINCOLN, Nebr., April 17— Wh(‘n‘ Gov. Arthur J. Weaver of Nebraska recently signed a bill repealing the | State’s bank guaranty law, it marked the virtual passing a favorite principle of William Jennings Bryan. It was one of the chief issues of the last two Bryan campaigns. Out of it grew more than a dozen State bank guaranty laws, modeled on the same pian, in as many States. Oniy one is left, that of the State of Mississippi. Even as late as three years ago agita- | tion in Iowa for a similar law was strong enough to be one of the most bitterly contested issues before the Legislature. The Nebraska guaranty fund was conceded to be “in the red” between $16.000,000 and $20,000.000. It was the only unlimited guaranty scheme to exist for any considerable time in the United States. Most of the other States that passed guaranty laws adopted some kind of limit to tive bankers' obligations, NEW SECURITIES. , NEW YORK, April 7 |.~1").—Ne“" security offerings today include: American Metal Co., Ltd., $20,000.000 four-year 5> per cent gold notes, | dated April l 1930, and ‘due April 1, | 1934, priced at 99': and accrued interest to yield 5.64 per cent. Offered by a banking group composed of Charles D. Barney & Co., Hallgarten & Co., and others. Ford Pay Roll Increased. NEW YORK, April 7 (#).—The num- ber of employes at the Ford Motor Co.’s, Norfolk, Va. plant has been increased | from 1,700 to 2,300, and the daily pro- | duction rate has been advanced to 375 | cArs, an increase of about 51 per cent.
