NEW YORK, February 13.—Employ- ers’ and employes' organizations in the | | New York garment industry last night | signed agreements officially ending a | strike which for nine days has paralyzed the industry. | ‘The signing of the agreements means | that 22,000 strikers employed in shops affiliated with the various employers’ groups will go back to work as soon as arrangements can be made to re- employ them. All are expected to be on the job by the first of next week. Seven thousand other workers who were employed in independent shops will re- turn as soon as separate agreements with their employers can be signed. Lieut. Gov. Herbert H. Lehman acted as mediator of the dispute. ‘The jobbers and contractors, who have been at loggerheads on one point throughout the strike, were unable to agree until yesterday. The point at issue was the proposal of the contractors that jobbers confine all their orders to manufacturers who are members of | the contractors’ organization. The | jobbers finally agreed to do this for | three months, after which another set- | tlement will be made. In return con- | tractors will lift the provision requiring the jobbers to place their work in mem- | ber shops in cities outside New York. | In a long-distance race on skis—the Norwegian snowshoe—a racer covered 150 miles in 21 hours, a very fast rate for snow travel.
