Historian Says Robert the Bruce Was a Feudal Bully. GREENOCK, Scotland, January 25 (). —Robert the Bruce and his persevering spider are the latest victims of the 1 | Process of historical fact research. In an address delivered here Thomas Johnstone, under secretary of state for Scotland, said that so far from Bruce being an admirable personality he was <lmply a feudal bully. He also said that in the Winter of 1306-7, when Bruce was supposed to be | lying half starved in a cave learning his message of courage from the spider, the Scottish hero was in fact in the rude, but by no means uncomfortable, sur- roundings of the Norwegian court. il o DISTINGUISHED CROSS IS GIVEN EX-SOLDIER George B. Greer of Halethorpe, Md., has been awarded the Dlslln‘uhhrd Service Cross by the War Department for extraordinary heroism in action near Negre, France, March 19, 1918, while serving as a private in the 117th Trench Mortar Battery, 42d Division. According to the citation, Pvt. Greer voluntarily carried an important mes- sage to his platoon commander over a shell-swept road, despite the fact that he was severely wounded,on the route, and “displayed e‘(tmordInnry courage, self-sacrifice and devotion to_duty.” + Citations for personal gallantry in action in France during the World War have been awarded to Chester A. Reese of Malverne, Long Island, N. Y., and Francis P. Gay of Hominy, Okla., both of whom served in the ranks. For Real Smart Furniture Go to Baum’s CONNECTICUT AVE.
