DAY HONORE BYMENORAHLIGATS Symbolical, Seven-Branched| Candlesticks Dedicated by Bishep Manning. Br the Associated Press. NEW YORK, February 3.~Two tali’ [- Menorah lights, standing at either side of the high altar in the Cachedral of ' St. John the Divine (Episcopal), are | believed by Bishop Manning to mark the first use of the symboiical seven- | branched candlesticks of Judaism m a cathedral. | The twin lights, which are the gift| of Adolph 8. Ochs, publisher of the New York Times, were dedicated by Bishop William T. Manning yesterday, | assisted by Very Rev. Milo H. Gates, new cathedral dean. | Bishop Manning called them symbols of the debt owed by Christianity to Julaism. “This gift is a beautiful and signifi- cant one, both religious and historical,” said Bishop Manning. “Menorah lights were used in Solomon's Temple in Jeru- #alem, and they are still used in Jewish synagogues throughout the world, but this is the first time Menorah lights have ever shone in a Christian ca- edral. The Menorah is symbolical of the creation. The center light represents the Sabbath, and the other six each reprseent one of the days of creation as described in the Old Testament. Dean Gatés, in his sermon, said the lights were believed to be the most magnificént examples of the Menorah anywhere in the worll. They are fash- ioned of bronze and gold and stand 12 feet high, | SEWING CLUB FORMED. Ladies of M. E. Church at Leonard- town Organize. Special Dispatch to The Star.
