Capital Society Foresees Early Return of Notables For A&(_)aching Season Many in Official Stations Already at Their Posts. Chief Executive and First Lady Have House Guests. BY SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. ITH the White House keeping its doors open over Bunday} and the President and Mrs. Hoover not only in residence there, but surrounded by a group of guests; there is a com- | fortable feeling that Washington is again coming into its | own officially. It is indeed surprising how many in official ranks | have returned to Washington and this week there will be a regular | influx of House members arriving for the opening of lower branch | of Congress tomorrow. A FEW persons who are related to former President and Mrs. | Coolidge, or who are their most intimate friends, leave Wash- ington today fot the wedding of Miss Florence Trumbull, daughter of the Governor of Connecticut and Mrs. Trumbull, to Mr. John Coolidge, which takes place tomorrow afternoon in the Congrega- tional Church at Plainville, Conn. Less than a hundred guests will witness the ceremony, even some of the relatives on the Coolidge side being excluded from the small edifice to join the several hundred guests at the reception given at the governor’s home. HERE is a touch of irony in the broad publicity being given the Coolidge-Trumbull wedding after painful efforts to keep the an- nouncement and all information at that time from the press. Now it has assumed the phase of other weddings with showers for the bride, luncheon and tea parties given by her attendants and girl friends, and last night Miss Estélle Trumbull gave a dinner for the bride and bridegroom-elect and there is in reservation for their send-off following the wedding tomorrow, quantities of rice and such unseemly things as old shoes. You cannot keep the public from loving the human side of life. IF one were asked what amusement would prevail in Washington society during the coming season there could be but one answer— dancing. Almost every debutante will be brought forth and intro- duced formally to the social world with a tea dance, a dinner dance,} or a ball. Mrs. Hooes and Mrs. Phillips will mark the beginning ef | things by giving a dinner dance at the Willard the evening of November 15 for the debutantes and their mothers, but preceding that will be the smart Halloween ball to be given by Mrs, Hagner at the Willard Thursday night October 31. Costumes, confetti and a general revel conducted along society lines will obtain. . HE first Washington Bachelors’ cotillon of this season will be iven under the direction of Mrs. Dunlop at the Mayflower on Mohday night December 9, January 10 and February 12 being the subsequent dates for these delightful events. Mr. Thomas Sim Lee is rrendem of the Bachelors, and ‘Mr. George H. Calvert, jr., is one of th hew figures and wonderful favors will reward the guests. HE Army dances, always a delightful feature of the Winter’s social season, will, as usual, be held at the Willard Hotel. The first dance will be given November 22, and the others on January 3, Jan- uary 31 and March 7, the hour for each bfl:fl at 9:30 o'clock. The committee includes Mrs Charles P. Summerall, honorary chairman; Mrs. Briant H. Wells, chairman; Mrs. Charles H. Bridges, vice chair- man; Mrs, Merritte W. Ireland, Mrs. Herbert B. C 8. Hughes and Mrs. Howard C. Davidson. Mrs. . Gerow fs treasurer and Mrs. Robert H. Dunlop secretary of the organization.
