[ ASKS FOR BALLOON DELAY APPROVAL Argentina’s Entry in Bennett Race Held Up When Steamer Grounds. ‘The fate of the entry from Argen- tina in the international Gordon Ben- by ground- ing of the steamer upon which it was being shipped. 3 Senor Eduardo Bradley, minister of civil aviation of Argentina, who will pilot the balloon if the delayed entry is approved, was in the National Capi- tal to make a personal plea for a waiver of the rules in his behalf. Bradley’s balloon, “the Argentina,” is at present aboard the S. S. American Legion, which went aground outbound from Buenos Aires, and has been de- layed beyond the regulation period. Bradley called at the White House Wednesday, accompanied by Senator Julian Encisco, charge d'affaires of the Argentine embassy, and described to President Hoover his experience of 20 years as a balloon pilot, including the first flight across the Andes Mountains. He appealed to the National Aero- nautic Association and by wire to Maj. Albert Bond Lambert, director of the races, asking permission to take his bal- loon to St. Louis the day before the contest.
