OTTAWA, Oontario, August 9.—The Canadian hydrographic service yester- day reported the water levels of Lakes Ontario and Erie during July averaged 1 inch lower than in June, although higher than the July mean level for many years. By the end of August the level of the lakes should be about 6 inches lower than the July mean stage, the report said. Lakes Huron and Superior averaged 13 inches higher during July than in June, the report continued. The July mean level for Lake On- tario was the highest for that month since 1908; for Lake Erie, since 1885, and for Lake Huron, since 1888. The Lake Superior level was the same es neither speaking.
