Mullaly, national director of the Jeague. He congratulated them on | their spiritual ardor which had brought them from one hemisphere to another to participate in the beatification of {,l;le Jesuit Father Claude De La Colom- ere. ‘The Pontiff declared he had been kept fully cognizant of the work of the league and thoroughly admired both its cxtent and its effective spiritual labors. He was pleased that the pilgrimage had | been organized to celebrate his golden | jubilee. ~ He extended the pontifical blessings to those unable to make the pllgrimage and to all members of the league and their families. The audience lasted for 45 minutes and the Pontiff spoke in both French and German., He congratulated Bishop Joseph S¢hrembs of Cleveland, Ohlo, on the fact that tomorrow will be the eighth anniversary of his translation to that bishopric. This year also marks the fortieth anniversary of the ordina- tion to the priesthood of the bishop. The Pope said that he and the bishop could congratulate each other and cele- brate their anniversaries simultaneously. He wished him “moltos annos” (many years), The pontiff dwelt only briefly on the Lateran treaties, saying that it was a tremendous responsibility, which he, however, had been glad to undertake. Bishop Schrembs presented the Pope with a cablegram of congratulations on { his jubilee from the Slovak section of Cleveland. The Pontiff charged the bishop to deliver personally his grati- tude for the greeting and to bless the | senders.
